Reward ideas

Loyalty reward ideas for hair salons

A salon customer visits every five to eight weeks, so a card must pay out within a year or it will not be finished. These five are priced against a €55 average ticket at 80 % margin, which is why service rewards cost so little to give.

Five reward structures that work

Treatment at six

In the typical range

6 cuts → a free wash and treatment

Pays out inside a year and the reward is time and product you already have in the chair. The most common salon structure for a reason.

6 stamps · reward worth €35.00 ≈ 11 % of what the customer spends to earn it · costs you about €7.00 per reward at 80 % margin

Sixth visit half price

In the typical range

5 visits → 50 % off the 6th

A discount keeps the customer paying while still feeling rewarded. Easy for staff to apply at the till.

5 stamps · reward worth €27.50 ≈ 10 % of what the customer spends to earn it · costs you about €5.50 per reward at 80 % margin

Colour club

In the typical range

4 colour services → a free gloss

Colour clients spend more and return on a schedule. A separate card for them rewards your highest-value visits.

4 stamps · reward worth €25.00 ≈ 7 % of what the customer spends to earn it · costs you about €5.00 per reward at 80 % margin

Product card

In the typical range

8 products → 1 free

Retail sales are the salon's second margin. A product stamp card moves the shelf without discounting the chair.

8 stamps · reward worth €20.00 ≈ 13 % of what the customer spends to earn it · costs you about €4.00 per reward at 80 % margin

The 10th cut

In the typical range

Every 10th cut is free

Generous and simple, but ten visits is over a year for most. Use it only with very frequent clients such as beard and short-cut regulars.

10 stamps · reward worth €55.00 ≈ 10 % of what the customer spends to earn it · costs you about €11.00 per reward at 80 % margin

Before you pick one

Count how many weeks your average client takes to fill the card. If it is more than twelve months, shorten the card or lower the reward; a card nobody finishes is a discount nobody notices.

Questions

A reward costs you what it costs to make, not its sales price: the sales price minus your gross margin. The share is the reward's sales price divided by everything the customer spends to earn it. Both use a typical margin for the industry; the calculator lets you put in your own.
A reward worth 5–15 % of the spend needed to earn it is where most programmes land: worth chasing for the customer, affordable for you. Under 5 % is usually ignored; over 15 % works but check the monthly net.
Keep one base rule per loyalty card, so customers and staff can explain it in a sentence. Use campaigns for the rest: double stamps on quiet days, a bonus stamp for trying something new, a birthday reward.
